Pumpkin Pie is America’s Favorite Thanksgiving Dessert
The Pilgrims discovered many new things when they first arrived in the New World. One was the Native American's use of pumpkin. Many people associate pumpkin pie with the Pilgrims. But the Pilgrims’ first pies were not pies at all. Early Americans would scoop out a pumpkin, fill it with milk and pumpkin flesh and cook it for hours with spices and syrup to make pudding. It was so popular, the Pilgrims made pumpkin part of their Thanksgiving tradition.
Pumpkin pie is now part of the American Thanksgiving Day tradition. Ask any cook, and you are likely to find a special recipe for pumpkin pie that has been handed down from generation to generation. But if you look closely, Grandmother’s special recipe probably came from the label of a can of LIBBY’S® canned pumpkin.
The Illinois company has been canning pumpkin since 1929. LIBBY’S® “Famous Pumpkin Pie” recipe first appeared on its labels in 1950. It has since become an American favorite. LIBBY’S® Pumpkin is used to create more than 50 million pies every Thanksgiving.
Here’s the recipe, which came from the corporate Web site, www.VeryBestBaking.com
