Police: $60K Equipment Request for “Active Killer Scenarios”
Tony WintonMarch 18, 2019
Saying threats are changing, Village officials are seeking approval to purchase 36 bulletproof vests and other protective equipment for the police department at a cost of more than $60,000. The Village Council is expected to consider the item Tuesday.
“Because of changes in police department response to active killer scenarios, the Key Biscayne Police Department faces heightened levels of risk,” wrote Village Manager Andrea Agha in a memo to council members in support of the purchase.
Agha says the warranty on the Village’s current set of vests is about to expire, and funding has already been set aside in the 2019 capital budget for the expense.
