TO OUR READERS:
A report from the publisher
Key News Joins The Associated Press
Several months now into our Key News foray, we continue to learn from valuable formative experiences. Among numerous points of reflection and study, our most important takeaway thus far is that a content-rich, community-focused news and information platform is indeed as valuable — if not essential — as we thought initially.
As we continue to sharpen our processes, I am pleased to report that we have now joined with The Associated Press. The AP is a private sector, independent, nonprofit news cooperative that has covered the United States and the world since 1846. We believe our relationship with the AP will help our staff keep pace with a myriad of pertinent topics and evolving developments more efficiently than would be possible otherwise. We also see the AP leverage as a means to stay on mission by using talented “stringers” as much as we can. AP was flexible in adapting a contract to our particular goals, which we appreciated.
We see from the readership statistics that our reporting garners widespread and even sustained attention. As gratifying as that is, we think of this merely as a good start. We see room for improvement and we mean to be as current, as interesting, as vibrant and vital as high standards, scrupulous reporting, talented editing and serious purpose enable. We think our AP connection will assist importantly. We are investing in pursuit of excellence because our mission, for our readers and our community, permits nothing less.
