Inaugural Key Biscayne Yoga Day a Success

Key Biscayners united with yogis all over the world this past Friday to celebrate their first International Yoga Day. Instigated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi five years ago, the day aims to share the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of what Modi calls “India’s gift to the world.”
Six classes were held during the course of the day, with attendees enjoying the beautiful outdoor locations of the Beach Park or the Village Green. Eight teachers from Key Biscayne generously gave up their time to share their love of yoga: Carolina Portuondo Moreno (Sprout Yoga), Nicole Mavris, Veronica Vidal (VeroYoga), Krista Miller (Unahu Healing Arts), Vanessa Noriega, Courtney King (Courtney King Yoga), Liesbet Pryke (Nourishing Body and Mind) and Cecelia Rubio.
Even little ones got involved. Mary Stevens, who took her toddler along to the Sprout Yoga class, said: “I’m always looking for fun things to do on the island with my toddler. The class was wonderful – such a great opportunity to bond in a healthy, active way. I would love to see it happen again!”
Classes were offered free of charge in keeping with the spirit of the day, but small donations were accepted and all proceeds went to the Key Biscayne Community Foundation.
