Poopy Water Causes Swim Advisories – Again

Health Department officials said Monday that a no-swim advisory for Crandon Park South remains in effect after water samples flunked bacterial tests.
The advisory does not extend to beaches in the Village of Key Biscayne.
The Florida Department of Health said Friday that a second test result exceeded the standard for enterococci, or fecal bacteria. A department spokeswoman said Monday that testing continues to determine when the health advisory might be lifted.
The warning says “results of the sampling indicate that water contact may pose an increased risk of illness, particularly for susceptible individuals.”
Crandon Park has had repeated problems with unsafe swimming water, making a top-10 list of dirty beaches in a report released last month by the environmental group Environment America.
The bacteria can have many sources, including storm water run-off, wildlife, pets and human sewage, officials said.
