Support Key News on Give Miami Day November 21st
Franklin CaplanNovember 18, 2019
Dear Readers,
We embarked on the Key News mission almost a year ago. Our ambition was to provide an objective, honest, thoughtful and well-presented news and information outlet for Key Biscayne. We’ve learned a lot in the best way; by experience. Among the lessons: excellent locally-focused journalism is an essential community need.
The New York Times this Sunday cited to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finding that, by a double-digit spread, American adults believe social media does more to spread falsehoods than truth, and does more to divide the country than to unite it. Where are we if gossip and chats substitute for objective reporting and commentary? Ours is a dynamic, highly participatory, socially and civically engaged Village. We depend on honest reporting and validated information to help us keep in touch and maintain our bearings.
Give Miami Day is this week, and it’s a great way to show your support for Key News and Tropical Rag (operating under Island Media). Your tax-deductible donation will help sustain our non-profit news and information ventures, ensuring continuing pertinent reporting coverage and opinion pieces covering the kaleidoscope of matters of local interest to Key Biscayners.
Our staff and volunteers sweat the hard work required to produce well-vetted, well-written content, with high journalistic integrity. The community response validates the importance of the mission. Readership is broad and recurring, and more resident contributors are stepping up. All this is encouraging, and needs to continue. But, broader financial support is necessary. Just like public radio, community service organizations – like Key News and Tropical Rag – depend on support from the community they serve.
We believe that Island Media (operating Key News and Tropical Rag) performs an important function for our community and that investing in community journalism is itself a community-building exercise. Please help this cause by clicking here before midnight on Thursday, November 21, to donate whatever you’re comfortable giving. Thank you for supporting local journalism for Key Biscayne.
