Making a trip to Crandon Park, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis helped to showcase a new environmental program being rolled out by the National Football League in conjunction with Super Bowl LIV. The gridiron classic is returning to Miami for a record-breaking 11th time next year.
DeSantis joined the Super Bowl’s Host Committee for the launch of “Ocean To Everglades,” an environmental initiative in partnership with NFL Green, Ocean Conservancy and The Everglades Foundation. The committee says it’s aiming to reduce the environmental impact of the Super Bowl long after the game, which will be played Feb. 20, 2020. Last week’s event was hosted at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center.
There are four components to the initiative: plastics, coastal protection, habitat and education. In a statement, Everglades Foundation CEO Eric Eikenberg said he’s hopeful the partnership will establish a “new level of performance and accountability” for future Super Bowl host cities.
