Plastics: Why Should We Care?

Sofia Mesa is a full-time student at the University of Miami studying English and Ecosystem Science and Policy. She is the current Chef Andrew Scholar Program Director for Debris Free Oceans. The Chef Andrew Program serves as an internship for college students to learn about plastic pollution, educate others via presentations, coordinate beach cleanups, and provide business consulting for companies in the Miami area. Sofia was the inaugural intern for the program and now oversees it while training two new interns. This presentation will cover the lifecycle of plastics and why they are so prevalent in today’s society. It will address tangible solutions for the crisis that are inextricably connected to our day-to-day choices and values.
